Weekend in East Hampton

We went out to East Hampton a few weekends ago so Daddy could get Nana's house ready for her to live in this summer. For Mommy and Daddy, it was a trip down memory lane. They spent the summer of 1997 in East Hampton together and have made many trips back there since. It was that summer, when they were only 20 years old, that Mommy realized she wanted to spend the rest of her life with Daddy. Awww. But since Aiyana and I hadn't been to Nana and Papa's house in almost a year, we had a blast rediscovering the house, the yard, and the town.

After checking out the big, pink flowers near Nana's driveway, we settled in for our usual Friday tradition of pizza and a movie.

We went to bed at 11:30pm, and woke up at a ridiculously early 5:30am. We were too excited to sleep. Part of the excitement was that we had 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a yard all to ourselves! Mommy set up an art corner for us in the spare room (which we nicknamed the "play room") and we got right to work on some projects.

We helped Mommy clean off the back deck and patio furniture.

And enjoyed entertaining ourselves with things we found around the house, like Nana and Papa's straw hats.

Then Daddy had errands to run so he dropped us off at the beach. Mommy on a beach with a 4-year-old that is afraid of the ocean, and a 2-year-old who has no fear of the ocean (both of whom are prone to epic meltdowns) was a risky undertaking. But to everyone's surprise, we were very happy and agreeable. Whew.

Daddy had a lot of work to do back at the house, so Mommy tried to keep us out of his way with a playground and weed picking.

Daddy finally took a break from his work to grill us some yummy burgers.

And a trip to Nana and Papa's wouldn't be complete without the Glassman tradition, a nightly bowl of ice cream.

Our trip was bittersweet. The last time we visited this house, Papa was with us.
While we deeply missed Papa's presence, Mommy and Daddy warmed our hearts with memories and stories of Papa in the house he loved so much.

We look forward to spending more time with Nana in her East Hampton house this summer, and we know that wherever Papa his, he'll be smiling down us while he eats his ice cream :)

Love and a houseful of memories,
Zadia Love
